C. Spurlock- Baton Rouge Flooding
Donation protected
Chris Spurlock, Fire Prevention Officer for the Bellevue Fire Department, recently experienced the tragic results of the recent devastating Louisiana flood when it hit his hometown of Baton Rouge. Chris' home was flooded and submerged in 4’ of water, essentially destroying his home, his furniture and all his belongings. His tenant, an elderly woman living on a fixed income, was subsequently displaced and moved to a shelter in the aftermath of the flood.
Three of Chris’ four sisters’ homes were also flooded, eliminating the option of calling upon family for financial support. His sisters are currently living with Chris’ mom, herself just a week out of surgery for cancer. Chris spent the last 2 weeks in Baton Rouge, assessing the damage and beginning the arduous task of rebuilding his home. He returned to work today and is now burdened with the difficult reconstruction of all that was lost…tough enough if you live locally but extremely challenging from across the country.
Chris is not eligible for FEMA assistance since he was renting his home to the woman in his care. He was also unable to purchase insurance on the home as it was located in a flood zone. There is no help and no assistance other than what we can do here through a GoFundMe page set up in Chris’ name.
Please help us to help Chris put his home back together. Although we, as co-workers, could not prevent this hardship for Chris, and we cannot replace all the personal items that made his house his home, we can help ease the financial burden Chris and his family are experiencing. Even the smallest donation will help in assisting Chris in the long and laborious months ahead.
Note: This request is being made on behalf of Chris by his co-worker(s) personally; the request is not being made by the Bellevue Fire Department nor the City of Bellevue. All monies received will be used for the direct rebuild of the home, labor costs associated with reconstruction, and replacement of contents therein. Your donation will be gratefully accepted and deeply appreciated, regardless of the amount. Please keep Chris and his family in your thoughts. If you would like to send a note or letter of support to Chris, please send it to the following:
