Denari Baton Rouge Flood Relief
Donation protected
As many of you know, on August 14, 2016, Edward (95) and Muriel (91) were awakened by their neighbor at 2am. She informed them that water was rising at the end of their street and to make arrangements to leave. They called their daughter (Gail) and son-in-law (Tommy) who live across town to come get them. When they arrived at 3am water had breached the house and was up to 2 feet. At that point, a compassionate stranger pulled up in his boat and took them to safety. Gail remained behind to try and save as much as she could but was instructed a couple of hours later that she too had to evacuate by boat as the water was now at 4 feet and still rising. Displaced with only the clothes on their bodies, they waited 2 days to safely return to the house and assess the damage. All was lost. Every piece of furniture, rugs and collectibles that they had amassed the last 70+ years of their lives together was gone. Their two sons, Mark and Neil, flew in to help clear out and demolish the house and now they are all faced with the task of rebuilding and refurnishing the best they can for them. FEMA's 'donation' is negligible for what needs to be done and we are putting this out there in hopes of getting some financial relief for them to at least get back in the house with bare essentials. It's a tragedy for the thousands of people affected by this disaster but we hate to see this happen to our parents at this time in their lives. All monies raised here will help fund making their house habitable again with basic necessities; tooth brushes, towels, sheets, clothes, dishes, etc. and toward reconstruction of the house itself and home health care. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and generosity so many have given and asked how they can help.
