My name is Cydney Johnson. I come from a family of 6, with 5 children raised by a single mother who struggled to make ends meet every month. These circumstances prevented my older siblings and myself from the opportunity to dive deep into our education past high school. Our financial dilemma growing up became discouraging for me, since it was financially impossible for me to come up with the funds that would allow me to pursue a college education. At 22 years of age, I have decided to devote all of my energy and efforts toward an education with a deeply rooted purpose and never look back. I realize that with my determination, and the support of my community, I can receive the necessary education so that I can be of service to my community.
I desire for birth work to be my guide in diving into womb and womens wellness education. I feel a duty and desire to help educate and encourage women (especially women and young girls of color) along the path of having a healthy and desirable relationship with their womb space.
Expanding my knowledge in the present through joining birth worker of color collectives, studying the history of southern traditional midwifery, herbs, and food for the prenatal, birthing and postpartum person, as well as beginning my journey into midwifery, and as a placenta encapsulation specialist have been so enthralling, overwhelming, and promising, as well as other things! No matter what new piece of information or knowledge I add to my experience, I am always called back to birth and women's wellness work, as it all connects. I feel that I can only respectfully claim myself to be a birth worker, doula, women's wellness practitioner, midwife, etc once my sisterhood and community crown me as such, as I am here to serve you, not for the ability to speak upon what I "do". I want this to be a huge piece of who I am, and it will be because of you all.
