Serena is an extremly important part of our community. As a licensed midwife Serena empowers families every day.  In addition to supporting women through their pregnancies and birth she fosters a peaceful and loving envoronment for this next generation as they enter our world. Serena has always made herself available to others when in need. Now Serena is need and she needs our support in return.

Not only is Serena midwife serving the community, she is a spouse to Tommy Ferretti of 8 years, and a young mother to their 3 beautiful boys-  Demetrius, Valentino and Donatello.

Serena was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 2 years ago after during her 3rd pregnancy. She spent several days in ICU and multiple general hospital admissions for weeks on end. Serena was finally in remission for almost a year and a half until she found out she was pregnant again.

Serena was admitted into the hospital for 4 days due to hyperemesis on top of the ulcerative colitis flare. She was having blood in stools, incontinence, continuous nausea and vomiting, pain with defecating, and much more. An ultrasound was conducted to make sure the baby was okay and all was well. She was then released with a referral to follow up with her GI doctor. Several days later Serena started to experience vaginal bleeding and took measures to confirm a miscarriage had occurred.

Struggling with the loss of her fourth baby, Serena continued to become more ill. Symptoms of her colitis became more of an issue with each passing day. She went back to the hospital and has been admitted for over 2 weeks. Serena has had multiple blood transfusions, CT scan, ultrasounds, colonoscopy and a biopsy. She has a Picc line placed which is basically an IV in her heart. She has been on multiple medications, IV steroids, IV antibiotics, IV antivirals and other IV medications. The doctors have tried medication after medication and are still working to get her colitis under control while attempting to avoid surgery.

While Serena has been in the hospital, Tommy has been caring for all 3 of their children while working 50 hour work weeks. He has been getting them ready for daycare every day dropping them off and picking them up while still making time to bring the kids to see Serena in the hospital every day after work.

Serena has been out of work for over two weeks and is really struggling with keeping up with bills. In addition to the standard bills anyone would face in this situation, as a midwife Serena is required to pay malpractice insurance. Her next payment of malpractice is due September and it’s just short of $2,000. If Serena does not have malpractice insurance she can’t practice as a midwife in the state of Florida. Anyone who has recieved care under Serena knows that we need MORE midwives like her, certianly not less. Serena also has a $200 student loan payment that is due the first week of September. With the loss of income due to Serena being sick, coupled with the bills associate with being hospitalized, Tommy is struggling to keep up with the day to day bills such as rent, daycare, car insurance, electric, water, etc.

Financially Serena and her family could really use the help. If you're not able to contiblute financiall please continue to send Serena and her family your love and prayers.

As with all of us, rest is a key aspect in a healthy life. So lets support her, love her, and pray for her while giving her thr space she needs to rest and heal.
