Our beautiful friend Tasha has been presented with a huge challenge. What started as routine visit to the dentist has become the certainty of multiple surgical procedures, months of time off work recovering and a burden above and beyond what her insurance and financial planning can cover. The following is a letter from Tasha describing the scope of what she's facing:

What is going on?
Roughly 7 bacteria (2 very aggressive ones) are eating away at the lower bone around the roots of my teeth, surrounding tissue and mandible and a few areas in my upper jaw. There are some areas that the full length of my root system and very little tissue is holding my teeth into my face. This was determined using an oral DNA test. My Naturopath is helping me discover where they came from and how to kill them. It was explained to me that this is a systemic issue that goes way beyond what brushing and flossing can touch.

How can you help?
You have options. Donate by clicking on the link above or, if you cannot help financially I get it.  Most importantly PRAYER HEALS and that is the source of my strength. Pray with us.

Where will the money go?
Dental insurance covers some however, there are 3 surgeries that will entail pulling back all of my gums down to the roots, bone repair, decay removal and then teeth removal. After that antibiotic will be applied then my gums will be stitched back around my teeth.  I was told it’s an hour for each tooth and will take place in 2 phases.  The final tooth implant (bridge) surgery that may come later after waiting 6 months healing to see if my jaw can handle it.

Each surgery will not be held in a hospital but will be at the dentist’s office conducted by a periodontal surgeon.  Hopefully the first surgery will be held on October 26th or November 16th and there will be a four week break in between each surgery. Insurance is covering the teeth removal and replacement for the most part. Your money will go towards the surgical procedures.

How are things going currently?
Its nuts because I am walking, talking, smiling and eating with some pain.  The pain is slowly getting worse but because the erosion is so deep it’s hard to see or feel it taking over. I really want to be private about being toothless in Tacoma…lol. This feels like a milk carton approach to me but due to the severity of it all it’s important that I learn how to ask for and receive help. This is a vulnerable time for our family but we are doing well.

We have looked into grants and the UW Seattle Dental Program etc. to see if we can get help from them as well. We have obtained two medical opinions  from periodontal surgeons before making the decision to go public for help.

This email will be deactivated at the completion of the second surgery.

Love you all and thank you for reading this.
