In 2014 at the age of 37 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went through a tough cycle of treatment and 10 months later I thought I was ready to continue my life again. Unfortunately, only 7 months later the cancer came back, first in the lymph nodes and then in the brain. After 3 years of continuous chemotherapy and radiation treatment (and loosing my hair 4 times...), I have still been unsuccessful in stopping this beast from wrecking my body.
The last months I have been suffering a lot of pain in my shoulder, and my latest scans show that the cancer is growing into the muscle in my shoulder. Because of this I have to take a large amount of pain killers and I'm not able to work at the moment.
After failing the last line of chemo I have been encouraged by my doctors to try immunotherapy. Immunotherapy helps the body understand that it is under attack by the cancer cells and helps the body sort itself out. It doesn't break down the body the way chemotherapy does.
Unfortunately the drug that I need (Keytruda) is not listed by the PBS and it comes at a price of 4500 AUD per injection which I will need to have every 3 weeks.
Right now I feel like this is my best shot at improving my quality of life and being able to be there for my family, especially my 2 young boys and my husband who has been my rock through all this.
I hate asking people for help, but I have been encouraged by many to set up this page so here we go! ❤️
Thank you for listening and take care!
