“Campaign to Rebuild Janata Dhan Higher Secondary School”
Dear Friends and Families,
We are setting up a “Go Fund Me Campaign” to raise funds for Janata Dhan Higher Secondary School in Narayansthan, Balewa, Baglung, Nepal. As many of you know the people of our beloved country, Nepal have suffered tremendously due to the devastating April 2015 earthquake. The government of Nepal does not have the resources to rebuild infrastructure the quake destroyed or provide relief to those affected by the devastation. Many public schools and natural heritage sites have not been restored due to the lack of funds. The public education systems has been drastically affected. Poor children are suffering due to the lack of quality education. Their futures and Nepal’s future will be negatively affected because of the current situation.
At this point these children and the Janata Dhan Higher Secondary School can greatly benefit from the generosity of those of us who are more fortunate and able to change the current situation. Your help will have a tremendous impact on the education and lives of these children
The school is in a remote village of Nepal. Currently, the school has 343 students from grades 1-12, including 27 visually impaired special needs children. There is a scarcity of the resources required for educating these young children. There are not enough resources to purchase even the most basic teaching materials.
This fundraising campaign will help rebuild the infrastructures required to provide a quality education. The goal is to raise $50,000.00. This money will be used to purchase and rebuild the following critical items:
1) Renovation of Existing School Buildings and Replace / Repair Roofs as Necessary:
There are four school buildings where classes are being conducted. One of the school building (parent building) was built in the late 1960’s and is in dilapidated condition. The building was built using locally available manpower, and material such as brick and mud mortar without following any building design codes and standards. The foundation and walls of this building are very weak. The traditional type of building construction in Nepal are based on load bearing type foundation and wall without using steel reinforcement. Due to this reason these types of structures tend to have short life span in comparison to the cement and steel reinforced structures. As you remember very well, Nepal suffered heavily due to the April 2015 Earthquake. Many schools and heritage sites were destroyed. In that earthquake, this old school building may have been affected and its foundation and walls may have been weakened. Therefore, this old building needs an immediate repair & maintenance and provide structural support if engineering analysis warrants to make it safer for ~200 children who spend their entire day under the roof of this building. The other three buildings are relatively newer but need some improvements such as roof repair, structural renovation of rooms and safe electrical wiring etc.
The estimated cost for this project alone is $25,000.00
2) Replace/Repair old furnishing: All three of those school buildings have old wooden furnitures which were built probably in late 70’s or early 80’s. No significant repair work have been done ever since. The estimated cost for this project is $5,000.00
3) 4 projectors as teaching aids equipment. They want to be equipped with these projectors so that they can teach students. Currently, they have none on their hand. The estimated cost for this project is $4,000.00
4) Establishment of Science Laboratory with Modern Scientific Equipments: Early education in science and technology is a key to success in the future. The school would like to provide this training for those students who are keenly interested in current scientific discoveries and technological developments. However, the school is lacking this critical component due to lack of scientific equipments: they do not have anything significant scientific equipment in the existing science laboratory. Thus, the students are deprived of the basic scientific experimental knowledge. The school would like to make its science laboratory better equipped so that they can make their students more aware of scientific discoveries and feed their scientifically curious minds with experimental knowledge.
The estimated cost of this project is $10,000.00
5) 2-Printers, 1-copy machine: estimated cost $2,000.00
6) 10 New computers / Repair old ones: estimated cost $4,000.00
The completion of all 6 projects depends upon the fund raising success.
Please join us in the effort to return this school to its vibrant high quality educational place again. Each and every donor will be honored during the educational materials and fund delivery ceremony at the school.
