2016 Medical needs Kevin Dearmon

It is with a deep heartfelt sadness that I post this update. In my opinion no parent should ever face these decisions.  Please consdier donating and easing the constant stress, heartache and emotionial rollercoaster ride that Janet and Mark have riding for years!

Janet’s update on “Praying for Kevin Dearmon” Facebook page  approximately 4pm Friday 9/2/16 https://www.facebook.com/groups/53798630911/

First and foremost, we have had a great week here on Isle of Palms with lots of sun, swimming, great temperatures and now, the worst wind and rain I think I've ever experienced. Our week has also been full of making a lot of exceptional memories that will be with us forever. We've made new friends, been treated to some really neat stuff and all just to see that smile!!!

While it has been such a memorable week, it has also met with its difficulties. We have faced MANY seizures each day and throughout the night, some our normal and violent and some from a new variety. With this being said, after our visit-exam-consult-heartbreaking session with our neurologist yesterday, it has been decided that Kevin and I will return here on the 19th of September for admission to MUSC for approximately 4-10 days. He will be monitored and then placed in the ICU for several medication adjustments and procedures under general anesthesia to hopefully gain us a reprieve from the multitude of seizures and injuries/bruising he has encountered over these past few months and which have increased greatly over the last few weeks. This, as with anything we have tried is NOT a guarantee. At this point, we are willing to do whatever to give him some relief and are prayerfully hopeful that it will at least minimize this violent activity.

Unfortunately, he will continue to decline. It is our hope and prayer that this will enable us to slow that process. With having to be here for those 4-10 days, I will constantly be by his side in the hospital and Mark will be here as much as possible but he is scheduled to teach out of town beginning 9/26 for four weeks. While he's gone I will be unable to work my shifts in the ER (hopefully I can pick up the five hours a day while our caregiver is there) otherwise, it will be quite a strain on us. With this being an out of state admission, I'll be fighting with the state to cover what his insurance doesn't pay and you all know how our Medicaid system works.

Please pray for us over the next few weeks and in the weeks to come. This was not what we were hoping for but feel it is necessary for Kevin's wellbeing and it's our responsibility to offer him somewhat of a chance for a better quality of life for as long as we can. Please continue to lift our family in your prayers as we face these challenges ahead of us in the days to come. Blessings abound...❤️

Previous campaign description. -

Kevin Dearmon is a handsome young man with such a vibrant personality! He is also a young man who has a terminal brain disease, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, Refractory Epilepsy, mutilple head injuries and is losing the ability of daily functions that the rest of us take for granted.

He is currently experiencing severe seizure activity which has required Janet to take a leave of absence to care for him until they can replace his caregiver. As a result of Kevin's medical condition Janet has no leave and will most likely go without pay for this leave.

I can't Imagine the continual stress of caring for a child with a terminal disease complicated by the constant financial hardship. The goal of $4,000 will replace a portion of Janet's salary and pay off a looming medical bill.

Be sure to click on the link below and read how Kevin was able to walk across the stage at graduation with assistance. He was also blessed to have made friends with a goregous young lady who so kindly attended the Senior Prom with Kevin. You can also read about the two very dandgerous brain surgeries Kevin has had.

I wanted to take the time to thank so much everyone who took the time to send Kevin a card and gift card, gift, etc. for his graduation. We are very slowly, but surely getting our thank you notes written. Writing is a very frustrating task for him and our latest round of severe seizure activity has hampered our progress even more. We are so humbled to have so many that love and care for him and are praying for him daily. He continues a decline and I have taken a leave to care for him while we replace our caregiver. I'm just where I need to be even though this places a tremendous financial hardship on us. We will make it work just like always.

Please continue to keep our family in your prayers in the days to come as we are taking one day at a time and pray each day for Kevin to have a good day while we are making memories. Much love to all our prayer warriors and for thinking enough to honor him with your cards and gifts. We are eternally grateful.
