Hello family (and friends), I just wanted to touch base and share a little insight on Gary's return to us...
I think many of you have already had the pleasure of 'talking' to him since we left him with a new cell phone in Oakland (thankfully with unlimited minutes, ha). We had to put him in a hotel for a week, as our visit was limitied and we had no option of finding housing on such short notice. After getting him some clothes and food to get him thru this first week, we (sadly) had to say goodbye :(
He's been taking public transportation ALL OVER the place. Greg got him a bike to help out on the more local destinations (getting food, looking for work, etc). His mom and Rod have given him money for tools, housing, etc. but because he is mandated to remain in Alameda County, his money is NOT going to go to very far.
He's been able to spend some time with his beautiful girls and has been seeing his Parole Officer as needed. Now he's got to find a job, get a place to live, obtain his driver's license again and hopefully move forward to the next phase of life. This is where all of you come in...
Since some of you have asked how to help here is the scoop.
He's got a VERY positive outlook and is ready to do the necessary work to restart his life. We've been looking for homes within the geographical area he has to be in but sadly the affordability factor does not put him in very good neighborhoods. Greg is planning to go out again within the next 10 days (or so) in order to look at places (in a car) and hopefully find a room, at least for him to land in. If we can support him through a few more days/weeks at the hotel (which includes breakfast) it would be really helpful. Gift cards are great as well. Thanks in advance for anything you can do :)
The system certainly doesn't set them up for success, so hopefully we can assist in heading him in the right direction. Hope you get a chance to talk and catch up with him, as I know he has had many positive things to say about all the people that kept in contact and offered support in the past 16 years. Love to all <3<3<3
THANK YOU!
