Hello everyone,
This is the Emerson family. On July 23, 2016, my brother, Blake, suffered a spinal cord injury due to a diving accident while on vacation out in Sturgis, Michigan. He was taken to Bronson Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI where he remained in their NCCU (neurocritical care unit) for 9 days. He had spinal fusion surgery on July 27, 2016 while at the hospital in Michigan. He then endured a 12 hour ambulance ride back to Pennsylvania where he is currently on his road to recovery at Bryn Mawr Rehab in Malvern, PA. He will remain there throughout his rehab.
Blake is a fighter. He is determine to get back to full strength. He has the support of all his family and friends. With his long road to recovery, there will be a significant cost to help provide him with the best care and support he'll need to get back to full strength and so I've created this GoFundMe fundraising page to allow anyone to make a donation to Blake to help with his many medical costs throughout this journey.
In addition to general donations, I have created a fundraiser myself as part of my training for the Philly Marathon in November, I am pledging $0.50/mile run, throughout my training the next 3.5 months! This will keep me motivated to train harder and harder as my brother will be working harder and harder each day to get back to 100%. Training is underway and will consist of about 425 - 450 total miles, which includes race day. If you'd like to help my brother on his journey by making a pledge, please let me know and I'll mark you down! I'll be keeping a run log and be tracking my progress to keep everyone updated on how it's going! My brother is fighting and we're all fighting along side with him!
Blake's cousin, Maddy, is also running the full marathon and his cousin, Jess, is running the half marathon. We are motivated by Blake's fight and we hope to encourage him to never give up!
