Help keep our family moving forward

I'm asking for help this Christmas holiday. The car we’ve been driving to get us to and from work has engine issues. I was quoted by a local mechanic that they would start the troubleshooting for $900 plus fees, not including repairs. My fiancé and I don't have the money to fix it at this time, so we are asking for help. At the time we purchased the car it ran great and besides some cosmetic issues. Currently we owe 14,000 on the vehicle and since it’s in the wife’s name, she is considering surrendering our car as our only option.

We are in a rough spot. We’ve been building up our credit so surrendering the vehicle voluntarily to us might be better than getting it repossessed. We are both around a 600 credit score, so if we do surrender the car then our dreams of becoming homeowners vanishes. We have been paying off our debts and trying so hard to get our credit on good standing. We are so close to financial independence from our debt and yet it’s so close to disappearing. All the effort of paying bills on time, not being able to afford a decent meal, while starting a family. We don’t want our sacrifices to be taken by a lender.

Please, if you can help me out, the money will be greatly appreciated because this car is our only way to work and get our son the things he needs. Every little bit helps us.

We already have to give up our Christmas because we have missed a bunch of work trying to figure out how we can fix this car and get to work.
