Liam's Brain Surgery
Donation protected
I never thought I would set up one of these accounts, but here I am, hoping that some of you will read our story. Actually, this is Liam's story.
Liam is my 8-year-old grandson. Three years ago, he was a care-free, fun-loving, rambunctious little boy.
It is truly stunning to know that he is now scheduled for brain surgery on September 28 to remove a damaged section of his brain. He has been having seizures 24 hours a day that have left him with a slew of medical issues. The scar tissue on his brain has caused developmental delays and psychological issues. He has received many forms of medication, none of which have stopped the ongoing seizures, but all of which complicated his medical issues with terrible reactions to the medications.
Those of you that know him, know that the last three years have been really hard on Liam and his entire family. You should also know that Liam's Dad serves our country in the U.S. Army and works really hard to provide for five children. The expenses for Liam's care have been a big burden ever since Liam started having issues while the family was stationed in Germany. They received a compassionate relocation to the US to get better medical care for Liam and now live in Colorado Springs.
Now that the family lives in Colorado Springs, they have access to medical care, but Liam's issues are so complex that he receives care in Denver, a 90 minute drive from Colorado Springs. Although they have insurance, they live just close enough to Denver that TriCare will not cover any of their transportation costs, nor their costs to stay in Denver during Liam's surgery. The surgery itself is projected to be up to an 11-day hospital stay. The past three years have been a terrible financial burden on David and Nikki.
David and Nikki never ask for anything. I rarely ask for anything. However, the financial burden of Liam's care have grown difficult for all of us to bear, and I thought that mabye, just, maybe it is time to ask the village for help. Contribute if you can, your funds will go to help pay for gas, lodging, food and babysitting as needed while Nikki and David manage Liam's care, yet balance the needs of four other children. More than anything, we need your prayers for healing.
As Nikki's Mom and Liam's Gammy, I wish I could just take all the burden away from them. But I can't, and I would be so grateful for any assistance we can garner for them. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and wish many blessings for you and yours.
