“ONE ☝ HEART”

Thank you all for hearing my son’s story!

My son, William Robert Serrato, was born with Congenital Heart Disease. He was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Right Ventricle, Double Inlet Left, and Transposition of the Great Arteries. The doctor called it “Half a Heart Syndrome.” Since the day he was born, he’s undergone several surgeries. At birth, he received his first open-heart surgery to fix his “PDA.” At 6 months old, he received another open-heart surgery called the “Glenn” procedure. At 4 years old, he had the “Fontan” open-heart procedure and afterwards had to have a lung pleurodesis to help remove fluid from his respiratory cavity. He grew up with poor oxygen levels, but if you saw him and didn’t know his story, you would have never known all of the surgeries, medication, pain, chest tubes, heart cath labs, bloodwork, IVs, and EKGs he’s had to endure! He has always been a fighter and a trooper though.

When he turned 15 years old, he had to have a pacemaker installed because his half a heart couldn’t keep up with his body’s growth. They placed him on the heart transplant list at 16 years old, and he received his new heart at 17 years old. He is now 18 years old and doing well with no signs of rejection one year post-transplant. It’s been a wild ride for us all, but he will be graduating from Dickinson High School this summer, and I am very excited to see what he will do next!

The goal of this GoFundMe is to help offset the years of medical bills and put some money towards his college fund and future. Thank you much love and respect!
