Last year, I was admitted into the hospital for 2 months, due to the fact that my lymphatic system had gone crazy and shut down.
I lost the use of both legs and my kidneys had also quit working. When I was released, I had to start learning to walk again. At first, I was doing ok, but then my legs started to give out and I was losing complete mobility.
I have 3rd stage lymphedema. I require special compression wraps to keep the swelling down in my legs, as well as I need to keep my legs elevated most of the time. The wraps and specialized chair are very expensive and I need to get them as well as ongoing therapy to try and get my legs to a manageble size.
Unfortunately, the treatments and medical aparatus needed are an ongoing expense and I am having a problem keeping up financially. There is little or no government aid available as the afliction is not totally on their radar, even tho there are more lyphedema sufferers than ALS, Aids, MS and Parkinsons combined.
I work with the homeless and play an integral part in helping them get their lives back together. My job is to give them hope. Unless I can get control of this incurable ailment, I will have to stop and quite possibly join them.
I never thought I would ask for this kind of help, but I need to get my legs back under control so that I can continue to be a blessing to those that I love so much. I need most of this funding ASAP. It will go to all the specialized gear and therapy to get me walking again.
