Save Jolene's MediCaid
In 2002 Jolene was in a very serious car accident. She was dead for 5 minutes and spent 11 weeks in a coma. She has had 17 operations which have left her needing assistance walking, dressing, meals, and bathing. On the mental side Jolene has a severe traumatic brain injury which has left her a limited ability to reason and a poor memory. Therefore, she receives funds from Medicaid to pay caregivers, to help her with her daily needs, and prescriptions. In order to qualify for Medicaid, you must be considered impoverished and if you earn even $1.00 too much Medicaid is cut off.
Recently Jolene was subject to an audit by Medicaid going back to July of 2003. They found Jolene has earned on average about $50.00 to much per month for 13 years due to a small long term care policy which pays her a little over $100.00 per month; while $50.00 does not sound like much over the years it has grown to $7546.60. If these fund are not paid back to Medicaid prior to the end of September 2016 all her Medicaid benefits will be cut off.
Her caregiver cost is over $3000.00 per month, her prescriptions are a little over $1000.00 per month, plus she needs to visit the doctor several times a month for various things like the device hooked to her bladder that controls her urination, the metal rods along both sides of her spine, and the list goes on. These are all paid for by Medicaid now, but will be her responsibility beginning in October and she will be unable to meet these obligations.
