It has been a difficult year for Troy. In January he was in hospital, and was told he suffered acute myocardial infarction ( heart attack), and was told he had borderline congestive heart failure at age 42. Troy has been having TIA's (miniature strokes, stroke symtoms) on and off for two years. This clouds his memory making it difficult on him to communicate at times and complete the everyday tasks required of him as a Network Engineer and an IT Manager, and also to do tasks at home. On June 12th, 2016 Troy was hit in the head by a baseball while coaching his 14 yr old boys baseball team in Wyandotte, Michigan. He suffered a head injury, concussion, and a subdural hemotoma in the head. At first, it appeared Troy would recover quickly from this, as he appeared to be functioning well. As days went by Troy began having more memory problems, severe migraines, and balance problems. Troy was put on few days of bed rest by the doctor, as normal routine. When he was released to return to work Troy was told he was fired from his job as a network engineer. He began looking for work, but it makes it very difficult to look competant after losing a few postions within 6 months time. On August 1st Troy suddenly had a seizure while driving. We were told by EMS at hospital that he crashed into a brick wall while driving his car. His car was totaled, and he was rushed to the nearest head trauma hospital which is Beaumont Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn Michigan. After running many tests and MRI's Troy was told he has suffered a brain injury, bleeding in the temporal lobe. He was in hospital for few days. Troy didn't have any insurance. His insurance was cancelled from his job, and so was his neurology appointments and cardiogist also cancelled their appointments with him due to insurance. Troy began having more memory problems, but now he complains of his mind being very slow to comprehend. His balance problems are worse, lots migraines, dizziness, and problems trying to focus to look for work. He also has lost function in his right hand several times. On August 23rd 2016 Troy suffered a cardiovascular accident (stroke). He has aphasia, which means he can no longer speak coherently or intelligently, without stuttering constantly. Often he struggles for entire minute to get the first syllable out and that's all that comes out. Other times he can stutter full sentences. This is very exhausting for him, as now his walking is exhausting for him, just to walk 6 feet. He will need assitance and care. Troy's wife Tamara has been helping him with bathing, shaving, and grooming since August 1st.. The nurses are a great help at Oakwood, but Tamara still helps him at hospital with things like shaving and bathing, deoderant.
Troy has been the main bread winner of his family his entire adult life. He raised his son Tj and coached baseball and basketball in his community of Wyandotte, Michigan. He has been a fabulous husband to his wife Tamara and a fabulous, wonderful dad to his stepchildren, Kerian and Zackary. He has supported them and raised them as his own.
This past year Troy has volunteered his time to coach basketball for young boys in Wyandotte. The city had been in desperate need of a coach for some time and had been asking him for awhile. He has a great record as a coach and they needed someone. They also needed a baseball coach for 14 yr old boys. So Troy said yes to that as well, even though he didn't have a son on the team. They asked him to be an umpire, and he obliged, as the downriver baseball association needed him. Troy enjoyed umping, and coaching, and giving back to the community. He has helped in past with many charities as well.
Troy is no longer able to work, and his spirits are low. He has been a diligent worker all of his adult life. He put ten years in at the Detroit News as a Network Engineer, and another twelve years at Cancer Support Services as an IT Manager, which raised help for terminally ill cancer patients, and some time at various other places such as EnvisionTEC, WUN Systems, Casstech, SEAL, Other contracted work for companies who needed his expertise.
He and his family are behind in rent and many bills due to his failing health conditions, and unfortunate accidents. He and his family face eviction, shut offs of utilities, and phone. He is in need of a caregiver when he arrives home and some medical equipment. The family is waiting on approval of medicaid, SSDI, and state emergency relief. Tamara has sought help from many recommeded organizations, including veterans organizations. So far we have no help. Tamara is a United States Air Force Veteran, who served active duty overseas in Ramstein GE, and in McClellan in California.
Any donation was greatly be appreciated, as every dollar will count and add up to help us. Our main goal is prevent Troy, Tamara, and the kids from becoming homeless. Zackary attends Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, and has one more year left to complete to graduate. Kerian works at Victoria Secret part time.
WE would greatly apprecitate the help and will continue to help other people and other charities when we get back on our feet. We have a deep faith and great connection with God. We KNOW through God's love, transferring through you that YOU make it possible. Thank you So much for ALL your prayers as well! I will keep you updated on Troy and the family.
