Joe McQueen Mural

Nurture the Creative Mind, a non profit arts organization for youth,  is leading a public project along with the Ogden Arts Festival and Salty Creative to recognize and honor the legacy of local jazz musician, Joe McQueen.

Local community members of Ogden, UT Amir Jackson the Founder/Director of Nurture the Creative Mind and Director of the Ogden Arts Festival, met with the Owners of Salty Creative to discuss a way  to honor Joe McQueen another local community member of Ogden and music icon. 

Mr. McQueen has been a prominent fixture in Ogden, Utah's music sceen for 70 years. As a matter of fact even at 90+ years old he still regulary gigs. What many people do not know is the he was also a social activist, using his influence as a well sought after musician with many high profile connections such as Count Bassie and Duke Ellington to help desegregate the clubs from Ogden to Salt Lake.  Mr. McQueen has also led a life of service for years, volunteering for Weber Human Services, driving elederly community members to personal and doctor appointments. 

Joe McQueen is a great example of an artist, activist, and community member and we would like to recognize and honor him while he is able to witness the appreciation we as a community have for him and his example. 

100% of the funds raised will be used to pay for supplies (listed below), mounting, and artist(s) fees. This mural will be unique in the sense that it will be paintied on panels and artistically mounted to the building.
