Aiden’s Battle
Donation protected
Many of you have been following our now, 13 year old nephew Aiden O’Keefe’s gruelling battle with Leukaemia.
Back on December 14, 2020 came Aiden’s initial diagnosis followed by months upon months of aggressive treatment received at the Janeway Children’s Hospital in St John’s Newfoundland.
For those of you who don’t know, Aiden and his family live in Happy Valley Goosebay, Labrador which is more than a plane ride away from the Children’s Hospital.
This has kept him and his parents away from their home, their livelihoods, Aiden’s two younger sisters Ellie and Kacie and at times even each other making the nightmare of having a sick child even more challenging.
On October 25, 2021 we thought our prayers were answered, when Aiden was given the homecoming of a lifetime.
Aiden was able to go home, only requiring maintenance treatment in which he was able to receive at his local hospital and with regular travel back and fourth to St John’s.
This maintenance phase was scheduled to continue until April 2023 but was cut short on 5 July 2022 when abnormality in his bloodwork showed that Aiden’s cancer had returned.
Relapse while still undergoing treatment for children with ALL is incredibly rare but is heartbreakingly the reality for Aiden.
Aiden and his parents are back in St John’s, NL away from their support system once again.
His chemotherapy starts again this Sunday, 10 July 2022 only to be followed up by a transfer to Sick Kids in Toronto, ON for a stem cell transplant.
With no time to recover from the impact the past 2 years has had on this young family both financially and emotionally, Aiden’s journey is now starting all over again.
I ask that if you are able to, to please give to Aiden and help him and his family during these unprecedented times.
I can’t thank you all enough for your past, present and future support and prayers.
Aiden is one of the strongest kids I know but he cannot fight this thing alone!
Pray for Aiden Ryan O’Keefe.
