In 2015 my brother Vince was diagnosed with a very rare tumor in his jaw called Ameloblastoma. The diagnosis came after he had been misdiagnosed and treated incorrectly for almost 2 years. Vince was referred to the great doctors at HUP who told him he would need the tumor and 25% of his jaw removed. His insurance denied the surgery and all related medical claims over many months.Fighting with the insurance company led to a delay in care which allowed the tumor to grow and ultimatley caused a surgury requiring the removal of 85% of his jaw, all but two of his bottom teeth and a complete reconstuction of a new jaw in March 2016. This long battle has lead to medical bills adding up to tens of thousands of dollars. He will need 2 more procedures and pay out of pocket for his replacement teeth.Vince needs teeth and help with the bills his insurance company denied. Vince is a great brother, father, son and friend. If you know him, you know he is always there for the people who need him.
