My name is Melissa Merrell, mom to 2LT Taylor Merrell, and part of The Citadel Parents of the Class of 2024. Taylor's roommate and close friend at The Citadel was William A. Wyman. They lived in 4th Battalion, Romeo Company, and both were in the Palmetto Battalion Army ROTC. Taylor and Will were part of a close-knit brotherhood that included Luginbuhl, Payne, Parks, Eckhardt, Whalley, Sample, Fly, and many more!
2LT William A. Wyman passed away suddenly July 28, 2025 at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX where he was stationed in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. The Wyman Family are heartbroken by the tragic, and unexpected loss of their beloved son. Services will begin Sunday, August 17th at Crouch Funeral Home in North East, MD. Mass will be the following day, the 18th, with Burial and a Reception to follow with the Wyman Family.
Funds donated here will help cover his family's portion of the funeral expenses and travel from Maryland to attend the Memorial Service at Ft. Bliss planned by his unit on August 21st.
The Wyman family would like to use any remaining donations to create a scholarship fund and/or a Scouting Award in Will's name. Will earned Scouting's highest rank, Eagle Scout, with Troop 131, North East MD (Del-Mar-Va Council, Scouting America) and was an active member of Order of the Arrow with the Nentego Lodge.

He exceeded all of my expectations and was just a great person. I was so proud of his decision to serve his country as an Army Nurse. We will miss him terribly.
