My name is Devin Hallquist and this year marks my fourth year as a member of the Hogan Preparatory Academy family. For the past three years I taught English Language Arts at Hogan, and this year my role focuses entirely on literacy. I have created an Independent Reading Program for our high school students and I need your help making the program a success.
Unfortunately, the majority of students who walk through Hogan's doors are reading multiple grade levels behind. While there are many factors that impact a student's reading level, a big factor is accessibility to books. For many of our students, purchasing books is an obstacle.
In order for the new Independent Reading Program to launch each student must have access to his or her own novel. We are unable to even begin the program until money is raised to order books. The money from this project will be used to purchase new books for every student at the high school. It is our goal that by the end of the year, each student will have successfully completed three independent novels. This goal is unattainable without your financial help.
This project means so much to me because as an educator and member of the Hogan family I have seen just how incredible our students can be. Our students overcome 100 different obstacles every day before even entering the school doors, yet they still come ready and willing to learn. I believe that with access to more books students' reading levels will improve and they will be better prepared for college and beyond. If you believe in these remarkable young adults too, please donate to this project. Any dollar amount is appreciated more than you know.
Happy Reading!
