Bragaw Flood Rebuild Fund
As many of you know, Nathan Bragaw are going through an unbelievably challenging time with the floods in Baton Rouge. As a friend of Nate and family, I (John Catalano from Austin Texas) am establishing this GoFundMe site to help Nate out as much as possible.
As an example of one of Nate's posts: "Today was a roller coaster, physically and emotionally. On the down side, we struggled with demo today. Our house was built in the late 1960s and came with custom cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. This is great from a curb appeal perspective but not so much from a "remove and replace" perspective, which is what insurance companies call it when they acknowledge that you are going to have to take something out but they won't cover the cost associated with it. So we pretty much destroyed the cabinets in order to move them. Additionally, the bathroom tiles on older homes are backed by an inch thick layer of concrete and expanded metal. Let's just say that I've swung a small sledge hammer at a pry bar more times today than desired.
On the.upside, we moved into our temporary housing where we expect to stay for the remainder of the rebuild. And by "we" I mean "Danielle" moved us. We cannot thank Kris and Randal enough for allowing us to stay in their Airbnb while we rebuild. As excited as we are to get settled, I must also thank Candy, Nils, & Harrison for making us so comfortable and welcome in their home this past week as events have unfolded. I have seen photos of the Celtic Studios shelter and I cannot imagine how we would have gotten along without so many friends.
Speaking of shelters and good fortune, I feel obligated to pass along some information about this flood, as I have heard that it is getting minimal coverage nationally. Only 1 in 10 of the 40,000+ families hit by the flood are believed to have flood insurance. This is not because of laziness or ignorance, but because this flood was historic. Most people hit didn't live in flood zones, that's why the devastation is going to be so bad"
My goal is to help the Bragaw's by using GoFundMe to raise funds that will go directly to the Bragaws to help rebuild their home.
