Hi, my name is Laura and I’m fundraising for my youngest brother Kai’s battle with Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Hodgkin lymphoma is a rare cancer accounting for approximately 0.5% of all cancers diagnosed in Australia. It is most commonly diagnosed in people aged between 15 and 29 or over 65.
Kai is 23 and this was something that had never crossed his mind that could happen to him. His first sign of something wrong was a seemingly harmless lump on his neck late last year. Multiple doctors visits and tests later he was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in January this year.
Everyone that knows Kai loves him and he’s well known for his massive set of dreadlocks that he first got when he was 14. He’s also a big music fan and loves to support local artists with his favourite band being Vanilla Gorilla. He’s a kind hearted guy and always keen to help people out and also cares for the environment.

It’s now March and Kai has just completed his first round of chemotherapy. He’s on a high intensity regimen for the first two rounds to really kick this cancer’s arse before hopefully cutting back to a less intense regimen for the following rounds.
That time has now come when the harsh reality of chemo is taking its toll and his hair is falling out. So the big cut has taken place. A sad day.

Luckily many treatments for Hodgkin Lymphoma are covered by Medicare, however the hidden costs associated with travel for appointments and treatment sessions, accommodation, chemist medication and health supplements are starting to add up. Due to the physical and emotional stress caused by this disease and its treatment Mum has also reduced her work hours while supporting Kai.
This fundraiser is to just give a little help with these things and take a bit of stress off the family. All money raised will be given to Kai and Mum to help support his treatment and wellbeing over the coming months. Something to boost his spirits.
We are sure he will get through this and come out the other side stronger than ever (albeit minus the dreadlocks), but it’s going to be a tough few months ahead for him and I know he will be grateful and appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks so much for your support,
Laura
