I, Natasha Romero, am writing on behalf of my best friend and God willing my partner for life, Brian DeRouen. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer beginning of last year, went thru Chemo & Radiation, had a major surgery which removed the whole esophagus and pulled stomach up and attached. He eats normal but small frequent meals, but has lost a lot of weight loss this past year. Brian is a go getter, doesn't stop, and if someone calls he will do what he can to help. In December, his BLUECROSS INSURANCE increased to over $700/ mth just for him. Due to medical bills, regular bills, commitments, and the Oil field failing him and everyone he was unable to pay this premium and therefore cancelled him immediately. After his surgery they told him he was Cancer free so he could once again visualize watching his kids grow up and possibly meeting his grandkids one day. Brian went for a checkup about 1-2 months ago with blood work. I'll never forget the look he gave me when he walked in, he tried to still give me that strong secure smile but it only lasted but a few seconds and from there he didn't have say a word. Not again, is all that my mind kept repeating... I wanted to crumble but he needs all the strength I can give him. For those who do not understand ALL that we have been through here's a brief summary. Brian's good friend, Milton Romero, past away May '2014 from Cancer, which was also my husband. I have 2 kids that Brian has taken under his wing along with his 2 kids. We saw a wonderful new beginning, but now it's unimaginable for us to loose him too. Brian shortly after the blood work did a CT scan free of charge from hospital charity at OLOL. It showed Cancer is back in at least in 3-4 spots on back, & hip. Specifics are unknown due to needing a bone biopsy. His Dr. sent him to UMC in Laf. for this but instead we got a room full of interns, nurse and a MD. It was stated briefly that the Cancer is back in several spots and not much he could do but possibly MRI to see if radiation is possible to make him comfortable and offer pain med.'s. Chemo made to believe not an option, stated only 40% chance of survival as he winked at me. I questioned about a PET Scan to see what exactly he has and specifics but he laughed and stated "Do u have 8-10,000 dollars?!". I said no, so he replied, we will just do our best from the MRI just to make him comfortable. Bone biopsy wasn't an option either with this MD. Brian applied for Medicaid but denied. We are not giving up!! I contacted MD Anderson and he has to be self pay, but the deal is he has to pay the first $43,700 upfront then after he reaches $50,000, then they can possibly work out a payment plan. We tried to get him back on BLUECROSS but he can't sign back in till Nov, but doesn't take affect till January ' 2017. Brian looked at me with a hopeless stare and started to say how much he appreciated the time we have spent together as a new family. I demanded him to stop and not give up. I am teaching him it's time to walk out on Faith....Please give Brian this chance and donate if possible so he can watch our kids & Grandkids grow and have our happily ever after.
