Dear Family & Friends ,
My son and I (Mary & Brendan Morris) are in desperate need of your kindness and support. I am humbled in asking for your help and see that God has put this site before me as an answer to my prayers. I learned about this site from my son's school administrator who is trying to off-set the cost of school trips through these means.
Brendan and I live in an apartment share situation and our roommate has been in and out of the hospital for the last six months. He is having his fifth surgical procedure today and will have a lengthy recovery once again. He will continue to be on leave from his job, which will not continue to pay him now after six months leave. Our roommate will not be able to pay any more toward May rent and has no where else to go. I have been struggling already to pay just my part since breaking my arm and being unable to work myself during my long recovery. Due to months of occupation therapy after surgery, to gain the use of my hand again, even my home business was put on hold. Having just finished with OT last week, I've been interviewing for jobs without success thus far, but have resumed my home business (cake pops) which won't cover the now urgent need to meet May expenses.
In addition, it is time to apply for special needs summer camp for my son. Being Autistic, he has been challenged in past attempts with mainstream summer camps and after school programs and has been told to leave these programs because they did not have sufficient staff to accommodate my son's special needs. This has made working full-time almost impossible for me as a single mother. Finding qualified, affordable child care for him is further challenged by the need to take him to numerous appointments in his life for diagnosing and services.
I try for scholarships to special needs camps and activities, and sometimes get help that way. It is not definite that a scholarship will aid us this summer and I must get Brendan placed somewhere so that I can seek more work, especially with my roommate being unable to work for months to come. My roommate, nor I, have anyone to ask for large amounts of money to get us over this hump. That is why I am asking "many" of you for help with donations of smaller amounts.
I have had to be creative through these years of only being able to work flexible jobs to accommodate my son's complicated life's demands/schedules - I'm selling cakes pops to a restaurant and for parties (sometimes on the street even) as a way to supplement our needs. It is not enough to save us from eminent eviction though, if this last resort of asking for your help does not work to get our rent paid and allow more time for my job search and recuperation time for my roommate to resume his job.
