I’m reaching out during one of the most challenging times in my life. Due to circumstances involving a former roommate who was struggling with severe mental health issues, my home has been completely destroyed, and I’m having to start over from scratch.

My living situation became unsafe and unmanageable when my roommate’s mental health crisis escalated beyond what anyone could have anticipated. Despite my efforts to help and find resources, the situation resulted in extensive property damage throughout our shared living space.

Since I live in a co-op building rather than a traditional rental, I don’t have a property manager or landlord who can step in to replace damaged items. As a co-op owner, I’m fully responsible for all repairs and replacements within my unit—there’s no rental insurance or management company to fall back on.

This isn’t just my home—it’s also where my nephews stay, and it serves as my home base here in New York City. The destruction has affected not just me, but my family members who depend on this space as well.

The destruction is overwhelming:

• All mattresses and bedding destroyed

I’m essentially starting from zero. The most basic necessities—a place to sleep, cook meals, and store food—are all gone. The financial burden of replacing everything at once is beyond what I can manage alone.
