12 days before he was shot, Tavon (age 10) made a promise to go to and through college.
On the evening of Monday, August 8, 2016, Tavon was sitting on his front porch with his mother, twin sister and aunt when a series of gun shots rang out. The family ran inside their house. Almost immediately, they realized Tavon had been hit by a stray bullet.
Tavon was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent the first of multiple surgeries. The bullet damaged his pancreas, intestines, kidney and spleen when it entered his lower back and lodged in his chest. Tavon has remained in critical condition since that initial surgery.
12 days before he was shot, Tavon and his twin sister completed their Commitment to Excellence with the school leader of KIPP One Academy. During that commitment, he promised to do whatever it takes to go to and through college. The first step in that arduous journey for Tavon will be to recover from the shooting. Please support Tavon and his family in this process so Tavon can fulfill his promise to go to and through college.
