What’s the deal with these LUCKY BOYS anyway?
Almost 20 years ago, The Dictators posed the musical question: Who will save Rock and Roll? Since then, we’ve seen the rise of Trip-Hop, Dub Step, Funky Punk, Nu-Metal and numerous God-awful genres too forgettable to even mention. Perhaps a better question would be: Whatever happened to picking up a bass, guitar and drums and letting it fly?
Enter Justice James, Matt Stenson and Anthony Denny, collectively known as The Lucky Boys. In another era, these boisterous teens might have been poolroom hustlers, masters of the Three-card Monte or doing time in Juvenile detention, but lucky for all of us, they picked up instruments instead. Their mission to save rock and roll is a lofty one, but I for one am betting the farm on them.
Sure, the same fuel that propelled the muscle cars of the MC5, the traditional hot rods of Social Distortion and even Motorhead’s tour bus flows though these young fellows veins… and there’s nothing wrong with that! Take those solid influences and inject a near overdose of youthful enthusiasm and teen angst, and the results are some of the most hard hitting and melodically contagious rock and roll you’ve heard in ages. You are just going to have to trust your ol’ Uncle Mike on that, or better yet – get thee to a venue and see them for yourself!
So, who WILL save rock and roll? Look no further; we just might have the answer right here.
