We love you, Mom!

Our mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on August 1st, 2016. After a battery of diagnostic testing (not all covered by insurance), the doctors have narrowed it down to two possibilities: cholangiocarcinoma, aka bile duct cancer, or adenocarcinoma of unknown primary, though an absolute diagnosis at this point is unobtainable. She was told that she had 6 months to live, and 1 year with chemotherapy (3 years if we’re really, really lucky). She began chemotherapy on August 17th, and has been very sick as a result.
While we can’t be sure how much time she has left, her quality of life is definitely important. With the time that she does have left, she wants to see her daughters graduate grad school and enjoy time with the family. She would also like to explore alternative therapies that aren’t covered by insurance.
Unfortunately, there are very limited funds available at this point. She is concerned about making her mortgage payments, and not having the money to properly take care of herself. To explore adjunctive therapies, or even purchase a deep freezer for all the meals that friends are so graciously willing to make for her, is not possible at this time.
So many people have reached out with their love and support during this time, thank you all so much! We wouldn’t be able to get through this without your support. What would really help right now is financial support to help our mom though this very stressful time. Help with medical costs not covered by insurance and relief of the stress associated with the possibility of her losing her house would benefit her spirit immensely.
One thing our mom has taught us: never give up. We’ve watched her sacrifice so much for us after we lost our father unexpectedly 22 years ago. She has done so much for us, and now we would like to be able to give back to her – creating this fundraiser is just one way of doing so.
Please share this story with as many people as you can – we could use all the help that we can get right now! Thank you so very much!
