2016 Flood help for Newell family

Donation protected
This is a story of daughters trying to help their family members recover from the Louisiana Flood of 2016. I am Kathy Malone and I am telling this story along with my two sisters, Brenda Temple and Shirley Howell. I live in Oregon, Shirley lives in Ga, and we are very thankful my sister Brenda still resides in Baton Rouge and has been able to give shelter to my family members who flooded. My family lives in Denham Springs, Louisiana that has been totally devasted by this flood. I'm not one to ask for donations, but this flood has hurt so many. Many friends keep asking me how they can help, so I decided to put up this site for donations if any feel led to do so.  These donations will be used to help my mother, Annell Newell; my nephew, Garrett Banta; and my cousin, Elouise Kent.

The flood has devasted my family members and they need help in rebuilding their lives.  My 79 year old mother has lost everything to this flood.  Her only income is medicare. Her house received 4 feet of water before the river crested.  The river has never flooded our road like it did this past week.  She has lived in that home for over 50 years and the river never even came close. Her homeowers insurance had her rated as not even in a flood zone, so no flood insurance! On top of this flood distroying my mom's life, I have a 93 year old cousin who lived next door to my mother.  Water entered her trailer where she had resided for over 40 years. She lost her car due to water going completely over the hood . At her age this loss is monumental. If that isn't enough, my nephew that lived here as well has lost his trailer to the flood.  They are all devasted by this event.

There are only 3 of us left to support our family in this time of crisis, and 2 of us live out of town so arriving late to help with cleanup. Unfortuately there has not been any manpower available to help us with cleanup. Since we weren't there the first day the water went down, there is now mold and mildew growing exponentially on anything that got wet. I don't think we will be able to save much. We will do our best to help salvage what we can.

The money will be used to help the three individuals: Annell Newell, Elouise Kent, and Garrett Banta. We need cleaning supplies, contractor help, new clothing for them, food, ect.; I can't think of everything we will need to help get the three of them back into their homes.

I know my family members are amoung many who flooded so there are so many needing help. 90% of the Denham Springs and Watson area flooded. I just know that all three of my family members lived on a very limited income, but they did have their homes.  Now they don't have a home to live in. Luckily, my older sister's house didn't flood, so she now has all of them living in her house. They are safe and have a place to sleep.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated as I help my family get back on their feet. Thank you for your help if you feel able. All thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.

This is a view of the flooding just above my mom's home. There should be a bridge showing in this picture!
