My name is D'Ann Wells. This account is for my dad and mom, Dennis and Patsy Keenan. They live in a small town on the outskirts of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There house flooded in the Great Flood of 2016 in Louisiana. They have lived in the same home for over 20 years and their house has always been the "safe place" during storms and high water. Therefore, they do not have flood insurance; their home is not in a flood zone. My parents have worked hard their entire lives to provide for our family, but almost all has been lost. They are utterly devastated. My mom's a teacher at a small private school for students with dyslexia. While working with students who have learning disabilities is her dream job, it is not a high-paying job. My dad was a steam-fitter for over 20 years and is now on a fixed income. Like many other people in our community, my parents need a miracle. During the rescue, much of my dad's medicine was lost. My father watched the flood waters enter his home and car that he loved so much. Due to his age and the overwhelming circumstances, working everyday at his house is wearing him down. We are encouraged by how many people have responded to help and we see that, in such a difficult time, every dollar brings us one step closer to recovering from this horrific situation. God bless!
