This is our friend Maureen Ayers. Many of us in the community know her simply as "Mo". If you know her or know of her, chances are it is through one of our communities favorite past times. San Angelo Soccer.
Mo is a former San Angelo Central Bobcat soccer player, an Angelo State University goal keeper, a many year San Angelo Soccer Association volunteer, and a San Angelo FC competative soccer volunteer.
That is what everyone "knows" about Mo. She loves soccer and she especially loves San Angelo Soccer. You can catch her at any given field on any given day, either to watch it, play it, coach it, or cheer for it.
Yep, there are few things Mo loves more than soccer, but two of those things are her two light of her life children, Logan and Josh. She is a fierce mother, with a love and loyaltly that can not be rivalled. She has provided for her entire family single handedly for the many years. With a single income, she has worked hard to support her family and provide for every dream her children could have, while often times sacrificing critical things for herself. With never a complaint, Mo has overcome financial difficulties through nothing but tireless work. She never said no to any job, never found any work beneath her, and has never asked for a handout. Actually, she has always been the one to show up at a bake sale with far more than required, and then turned around and gave her share of the profits to someone she felt needed it more. She would never ask for help, she somehow feels undeserving.
And that is why I come to you now. Have you ever heard that saying "when it rains it pours?" Well Mo and her family are in a monsoon. She unexpectidly lost her job of many years in July. A few weeks later she was diagnosed with bone cancer in her shoulder.
She was/is the sole provider for her family. Times are tough right now, and set to get worse. She was slated to have surgery to remove the cancer in September. Due to unforseen financial problems, she can not have the surgery until the hospital can collect at least her deductible of her health insurance. She has postponed the surgery indefinitely.
That means she has cancer contiuing to grow in her shoulder without an opponent. That means she is giving cancer a shot. She is giving cancer a fighting chance to take over her body and a mother away from her children because there is no money to pay her insurance deductible. Is it fair? No, but it is what is happening right now.
That is why I am coming to you. Especially the San Angelo Soccer Community for help.
This woman has been your friend even if you don't know her. She has worked, donated and given of herself more than anyone knows. She would never ask for help, but she needs it. Lets get the funds so she can call her doctor and tell her to schedule the surgery and set up treatment.
I know factually she would do it for you. This is not a hand out. She will return the kindness, of that I am sure. Please donate what you can. I know we can count on you soccer nuts to help one of your own.
Thank you.
