Some of you may know Luis as an avid soccer fan, one who has been a staple in the San Francisco soccer and Futsal community for over 20 years, refereeing and holding soccer leagues for children and adults.

Some of you may know Luis as a co-worker, one who works hard every day and makes friends with everyone he meets.

Some of you may know Luis as a father, an uncle, a brother, and a friend, one who is supportive and funny, always telling dad jokes and who is always cheering on the Golden State Warriors. Luis is a caring friend, and is always there for anyone who needs him.

Some of you may not know Luis at all, but we’re sure you’d get along with him right away. It's the kind of person he is.

For right now, we know Luis as a Cancer Fighter.

Luis was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in September of 2023. It is an aggressive type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Luis has been fighting since the day of his diagnosis. He spent a month in the hospital receiving Chemotherapy treatments. Since then, he has continued with chemotherapy at home and back at the hospital. He has been receiving blood transfusions and platelets, to try and keep his levels high and the cancer at bay.

Since receiving his diagnosis, he has been unable to work. Chemotherapy has weakened him, and he has to stay safe and healthy to fight the cancer and receive treatments, as his immune system is almost non-existent. Family and friends have been supporting him with what they can, helping him with rent and bills, buying him food and supplies, and taking him to doctors appointments.

But we know this road is a long one. We are currently waiting for bone marrow matches to give Luis a great chance of survival, but this process can take months, if not a year to fully be successful.

We ask for your donations to provide help for Luis during his treatment. Your donations will go to helping pay his rent, medical bills and insurance, transportation costs to the hospital, and basic necessities throughout his fight. We want to help alleviate the stress that comes with not being able to work during his treatment. We don’t want him to worry about his livelihood while he’s fighting for his life.

A Luis le diagnosticaron leucemia mieloide aguda en septiembre de 2023. Es un tipo agresivo de cáncer de sangre y médula ósea.

Luis ha estado luchando desde el día de su diagnóstico. Estuvo un mes en el hospital recibiendo tratamientos de quimioterapia. Desde entonces, continuó con la quimioterapia en casa y de regreso en el hospital. Familiares y amigos lo han apoyado con lo que pueden, ayudándolo con el alquiler y las facturas, comprándole alimentos y suministros y llevándolo a las citas médicas.

Pero sabemos que este camino es largo. Actualmente estamos esperando exámenes de médula ósea de sus familiares para darle a Luis una gran oportunidad de sobrevivir, pero este proceso puede llevar meses, si no un año, para ser completamente exitoso.
