Our Dear Tori will be 14 on Saturday August 20th.She is in 8th grade at Holtville Middle School ,Elmore County,Alabama.
Tori began running a fever off and on a couple of weeks ago and just did not feel herself. During her second doctor's visit she was ordered to get bloodwork test which showed an highly elevated white blood cell count. Then, she was sent to Children's Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment. She underwent more tests which included a spinal tap and a bone marrow test. The test results showed that Tori has Acute Myeloid Leukemia.Following that, her treatment was started immediately. She recieved her first dose of chemotherapy during the spinal tap.She will be in the hospital for a month at a time for treatment and will then be allowed to go home for a week. She will repeat this process for five months even though the doctors say she would be in remission after the first month .Her immune sysytem will be very weak during her treatment and her activities will be restricted and visitors limited.
Tori is raised by her mom who works very hard to provide for her and her two sisters. Her mom will miss work during Tori's treatment.
Although hospital charges are covered for Tori's treatment , there are several expenses that have to be taken care of immediately like food , lodging and miscellaneous .
Tori , her mother Christy, and her sisters will be ever thankful and grateful for all the help.
