On Friday, August 12, 2016, I reluctantly evacuated my home with my three year old toddler for fear of receiving a minimal amount of water. I live in a wooded area and assumed water would bring in snakes and other creeping creatures; moreover, I couldn't imagine surviving without power while my daughter, Cori, was there. I grabbed a few things for my child; however, I left with the clothes on my back (a t-shirt, joggers, and rain boots. By Friday evening a neighbor informed me that my house had taken on at least 11ft of water. The realization that I have lost EVERYTHING I own (sparing the MOST VALUABLE- my daughter's life and mine) is overwhelming, depressing, and heartbreaking. I remain grateful for my family and that small voice that told me to leave! My child and I would NOT be alive had we stayed.
I've lost things I can never replace such as the only photos I have of my deceased son.
I am asking for help to make it through the next few weeks. I need transportation (rental until my insurance can resolve my claim-no rental reimbursement coverage). Clothes, food, medication, and lodging are just a few of the challenges I'm facing. I know I have a long road ahead of me and I will NEED the SUPPORT of my village. I understand many people need assistance; any donations are GREATLY APPRECIATED. I welcome PRAYERS AS WELL. I SINCERELY THANK EACH OF YOU FOR THE PEACE THAT YOU SEND MY WAY. Your support reminds me of why I proudly served our country for 7 years and I'd gladly do it again!
Much Love,
Tamika and Cori
