Peter will very soon join his beloved wife Lauren Roy, who died this February 4th. He is near transitioning, at the end of his battle with Leukemia. He is at home, as he wanted; but he needs our help to stay there. During the day, Peter is cared for by his home health aide through the VA. Pete’s son Tony Howard is paying out of pocket for him to have a hospice nurse at night. Even though Tony never really knew his dad, he has stepped up to be there for him when Pete needs him.
It is right that Peter remain at home in peace through this process. However, that requires additional rent on the house, as well as the $400 per night cost for the hospice nurse.
Pete is honestly too near transition to be moved. Tony is trying to do the right thing and I give him so much credit for that. It’s a lot of money to put out for a man he hardly knew. Can we do the right thing, too, by helping to cover some of the costs?
So many of us have known and loved Peter and Lauren. You couldn’t find two better hearts and I am so grateful to have called them friends. Can we show them and Tony what they have meant to us? And can we help a good son to do the right thing?
