On Thursday, July 21st, 2016 Stephanies life was changed forever. Stephanie was involved in a hit and run while on her motorcycle. The man who hit her, 45-year-old, Marcos M. Ramirez left the scene of what could have been considered just an accident. This 45-year-old man left my princess to die in the middle of the road. He left my daughter to die. Let that sink in for a minute. It took police 3 hours to find him. Now you would think he’d immediately be arrested and the Jeep impounded. WRONG. He never spent a second in jail and the Jeep, sat in his back yard where he parked it after committing this CRIME. As of right now Marcos Ramirez is sitting at home enjoying his life in the United States, in which he is living in ILLEGALLY, while my beautiful daughter is stuck in a hospital bed struggling with multiple surgeries and immense pain. Stephanie suffered 7 fractures to the right side of her face including her eye socket and cheek. Her left leg, which put a hole in the bumper of the Jeep, is shattered from the knee down. She had stabilizing equipment attached to her leg when she arrived at the hospital as well as her Achilles tendon repaired. Since then, she has undergone 6 surgeries to put her back togethet. My daughter didn’t deserve this, NO ONE deserves this. This was an ACCIDENT, it turned into a CRIME the second that man drove away.
Now, if your blood isn’t already boiling, let me get to the legal side of things. First, this man has never held a license in the US. Second, he was uninsured and the vehicle he was driving was not his. This man is only facing minor municipal charges (driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident) and one criminal third degree charge (knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury). The police told me that he was arrested and the jeep impounded, which as I mentioned before never happened. They also had the audacity to tell me “he was the nicest Mexican they have ever questioned.” Are you angry yet? Because it’s about to get worse. HE’S STILL IN THIS COUNTRY. He’s still at home. He’s going about his normal life while ours has been turned upside down and shaken. On top of all of this they are trying to plea him out by September 1st. If this happens he will never see the inside of a jail cell. If this isn’t proof of a failing justice system I don’t really know what is. A man living in this country illegally, hit my daughter and left her for dead, while driving without a license or insurance, AND he is out walking among us. Please help us get justice for my daughter and anyone else who has been faced with a similar tragedy. Luckily my daughter is still with us and getting stronger every day, but we have a very long road ahead of us. Please share our story. Please pray for my family.
