My name is Corey. I've tried several times to write this but get stuck every time.
I write this at a time my family must ask for the help and good will of others. At the beginning of July, my father fell and broke his femur. The severity of the injury was complicated by an inoperable aneurysm that a UCLA specialist told us is over 9cm in size at the arch of his aorta. For a surgery as simple as resetting the broken femur, there was a strong possibility that his aneurysm would rupture and that we would lose him. He pulled through. This was not the first time.
Nine years ago, he suffered an abdominal aortic aneurysm that severed his aorta from his heart down to his groin that forever changed the course of our lives. He collapsed at church on a Friday night, was rushed to the emergency room, and proceeded to survive an emergency 13-hour surgery. After days on life support, he survived, but the lack of blood flow to the brain from the surgery caused permanent brain injuries that left him cognitively impaired.
My strong, beautiful mother took charge and put the family on her back moving forward. She continued to take care of him, as well as lead and provide for the whole family. However, after this recent incident and my father’s current condition, she can no longer continue her care for him. He has not been home since July, and may never be able to come home again as he cannot make it up our stairs or handle his day to day functions without constant help. In addition, his current aneurysm is literally a ticking time bomb that could rupture at any
moment.
He stays in a long term care facility that costs $2,800/month. After the last couple months of making these payments, we can no longer keep up as we do not qualify for any programs that could help subsidize the costs.

I’m asking for help to make these payments through the holidays and January. These will likely be the last Holidays my family will have together. Anything to relieve the additional financial strain and stress from my mother and family is appreciated.
If you made it this far, whether you donate or not, I appreciate you taking the time to read this. Enjoy your family. Enjoy your day.
