Hello friends and colleagues August 13th started out like any other day.
This is Kevin Clark, I live in Southern California, My Son, daughter-in-law, and grand-daughter started on a road trip to Pensacola Florida to meet up with us for our summer vacation. They were leaving from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana traveling on the I-12 interstate highway. You may or may not beware that the Baton Rouge area had seen record levels of rain fall over the past few days. Many homes and business were underwater. We thought it was best that my Son and family leave while they can get out of the city area. They left early Saturday, however once they got on the highway traffic stop after a few miles. The Flood waters had blocked the road about 20-30 miles ahead and behind the flood waters blocked their exit back. They were trapped. There were several 100 cars stuck with them, no food and no water. It was fortunate there were several great truck drivers to share their loads of food, some water and even an air-conditioned trailer to escape the high humidity and heat.
Late the following day, helicopter brought in some MRE’s and Water, but by the time my Son got there it’s was all gone. Later in the day a state trooper came by on the West bound side of the highway telling everyone they will opening the road in an hour or so. Well three and half hours later they did! They were off and running to see us. They arrive very late Sunday night, tired and stressed out but they were with us.
However the celebrations was short-lived. The Following day they received calls from their neighbors. The levee (which is small dam, near rivers and creeks) closed to their sub-division has collapsed/broke. As you can see in the pictures my Son’s entire sub-division and home are flooded. The forecast is for more rain and raising waters. Not good.
So I’m setting this fund up assist my son get back on his feet. I never thought I would ask people for help, but this disaster is beyond my capabilities to support. While my son does have home owner insurance, it doesn’t cover the expense of finding alternate housing for the next Months or Year to come while everyone tries to get back to some sense of normally. The funds will be used to provide a place where they can live, because right now they are in all reality homeless.
Thanking you in advance for your donations and support.
Sincerely,
Kevin Clark
