Well I never dreamt I'd be in a position to ask for help.
( I'm so much more comfortable on the giving end) but this time we are really in need. The most recent hurricane that hit us, Earl is the third natural disaster we have managed to survive. Only thing is, our kitchen did not. The roof came off completely and the damages are pretty extensive. After much advise and careful consideration I have concluded that the best course of action is to rebuild the kitchen from the ground up. As many of you know first hand, our kitchen is the life's blood of the lodge and we cannot operate without it. Our plan is to rebuild the foundation and the exterior walls in concrete to match the other buildings at the lodge. By doing this we will be able to put a cement roof that will become a lookout / deck. We will reuse as much as possible and do much of the work ourselves but need to tear down to build back and must start right away. Our goal is to have the place completed before Christmas so that we can invite our supporters to come and celebrate with us for the holiday and to eat, drink and bram with us. It will be the least we can do to try to repay you and hopefully a great opportunity to reunite with old friends. I have lived through a devastating flood caused by Tropical Storm Arthur, hurricane Richard, 2 years later, and now Earl. I consider myself a strong person but this is taking a toll and I am feeling overwhelmed. Because of the flood and the extensive rebuild and replace we had to go through with that I have had to extend my finances as far as they can go. The only way we can get back now is to borrow the money at 20% (Belize is super high interest and rough terms on loans) or to ask for our friends and extended family to help. The catch is that without the kitchen we can hardly open back for business and who will then loan me until I do. Asking is super hard for me so please know that I do not take it lightly. It's just that we have so much to do yet in this beautiful village. Jobs to create, reading programs to establish, turtles to save. I cannot give up now. So as discouraged and intimidated as I feel in looking at the plastic tarp I have covering what is left of our kitchen, I have to believe that somehow we will be able to get monies enough to get back stronger. Thank you in advance for anything even if it's well wishes. We really, really appreciate it.
