The Bloomington Normal Area Reef Club (BNARC) has started a fund to build a new larger reef aquarium tank at the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, IL to memorialize and honor Bruce and Nancy Petersen. Bruce and Nancy died on July 31, 2016. Bruce was the President of BNARC at the time of his death. To know Bruce and Nancy was to know two of the best friends you could ever have. They were gracious, giving, loving, welcoming, friendly, and outgoing and always had a smile on their faces and a positive word to share with others. Bruce was passionate about many hobbies including fly fishing, cycling, and toy collecting. Bruce and Nancy’s first love however was raising, showing and judging Irish Terriers for which they were know nationally. BNARC came to know Bruce four years ago when he attended his first BNARC meeting. He was fiercely passionate about salt water reef tanks and was a consummate student of the hobby. If there was a new book on reefkeeping or an internet article on a piece of new aquarium equipment, Bruce usually had possession of it. He became a trusted and valued member of BNARC not only for his extensive knowledge of reefkeeping, but for his guidance and leadership up to the time of his death. We will all miss Bruce and Nancy. For BNARC, Bruce was our leader, our mentor, and most importantly, our friend. We would like to thank the Petersen Family for their support in this project.
