As many of you know there have been some historic floods recently in Louisiana. These floods have affected thousands of people and it will take months if not years for many communities to recover. One of the families affected by the floods was mine, the Lewis-Oliva family.

On August 13, 2016, my aunt, uncle and teenage cousins had to leave their home in Hammond, Louisiana when raging waters flooded their community.  

They returned to a severely damaged home and hundreds of bugs and earthworms after the water receded. As one can imagine they were devastated. They had just finished rebuilding and replacing things in their home that was lost four months ago from another flood. It was heartbreaking for them to watch all the hard work and money that had finally made thier house feel like a home again destroyed in a matter of hours.

The floors, baseboards and walls have to be replaced because of mold and rot. The flood fried thier electronics and so much of thier precious belongings. The air conditioner was destroyed because of it being submerged in water for such a long time; a tough situation during Louisiana's blistering summertime.

We are looking to raise just a small portion of what it will take to recover for them, knowing that the total cost will be significant. They will use this money to pay for clean up, repair of the walls, floors, beds, bedding and appliances to name a few things.

We ask that our friends and family keep them in their minds and prayers. Also if you are willing and able to help financially, donate money which we will give to the Lewis-Oliva family.
