Kassi's Australian Mission

Just more than 2.5 years ago I moved to Southern Oregon for my first career job out of college. I work for an NBC affiliate as a television news reporter, anchor, and producer.

It’s been a season of mountains and valleys, self doubt and immense growth, anxiety and peace. I’ve sat in the living rooms of countless strangers listening to their stories of hope, triumph, unimaginable strength, horror, and tragedy. I’ve cried with families, had doors slammed in my face, been the recipient of eff bombs, hugs, and thank you cards. I’ve been publicly made aware of my shortcomings and been encouraged.

Everyone has a story. While some don’t make the news, everyone’s story matters. Even I have a story…

Three weeks ago I put in my resignation. Two months from now I will be moving to Newcastle, Australia for YWAM (Youth With a Mission.)

The purpose of YWAM is to know God and make Him known. My six month course will consist of two parts: Discipleship Training School (DTS) + outreach. My DTS is compassion based and in those three months we will learn about the value of human life through the eyes of the Creator, how to bring the promise of hope into a broken world, and how to address issues of poverty and injustice.

As of now, we don’t know where we will go for our mission or what exactly we’ll be doing. In the past they’ve worked with orphans, refugees, and child soldiers in places like Indonesia, Colombia, Japan, etc.

I think one of the scariest things you can do is ask God to use you, because He will. Then it’s up to you to decide whether or not you’ll follow. It’s a little nerve wrecking to put a career on hold that I’ve worked hard for, but that is what I am doing.

Now, I'm asking if you would like to partner with me in this grand adventure?!

So here’s the deal:  I need $10,000.  I know it seems like a lot of money, and it is!  But it will be an incredible opportunity to be able to set time aside just for the Lord.

I will be blogging along this journey… so you will be able to keep up with my adventures!  Won’t that be fun?
