Our island friend Glenn Rukwid lost his transportation and house and home on Saturday when his VW Westfalia overheated and burned up in a ball of flames.
Glenn had been looking for his dream VW for 15 years and just found it a few months ago. Now it's a pile of ashes, along with all of his belongings -- even his kids' birth certificates and family tree. He managed to rescue only his ukelele and his favorite cardigan sweater.
Glenn is one in a million. He is a friend to all. Master bartender, terrific karaoke rocker, and kind-hearted soul. Glenn is the kind of guy who stops by Sporties on his way home from bartending at The Eagles -- not for a drink, but to help Neja dump the cooking oil. She didn't ask him to. But he knows she could use a hand so he always stops in.
There are a million stories of Glenn's kindness and work ethic. He works three jobs to make ends meet. But it doesn't stop him from lending a hand anywhere it's needed.
