In Mickey's Memory

Mickey Whatley tragically passed in a car accident on his way home from work on an otherwise typical Tuesday afternoon last week. He left behind a fiancee, Danielle, in the midst of their wedding planning. He'd been interested in Danielle for a good five years before she finally gave into his advances. He was a very shy man; he was afraid to approach her, but he stayed close by, watching and waiting for his chance. He remained on the outskirts of her life, a quiet, patient presence. In the end, it was his kindness, his compassion, and (eventually) his care for her son that won her heart.

Mickey, already a father of two from a previous marriage- Emily, 16, and Trey, 12- became a dad to Danielle's son, Brodi, as well. Mickey was an amazing man- not only did he hold a truly boundless amount of love for his biological children, he also managed what many men can't. He didn't care that Brodi didn't share his blood- he loved him just as deeply and as selflessly as any father loves his child.

Together, they formed a family. They shared three years worth of Christmases, birthdays, and cruises. They shared a home, purchased a car, survived the speed bumps in the road, and made plans for an outdoor wedding on July 15th (against her mom's cautions about the heat). They sent Brodi off to his first day of third grade four days before the accident that took Mickey's life.

Mickey was young; no one expects a tragedy like this to happen in the prime of their lives. No one thinks to prepare for something like this. Not only has his death left Danielle and Brodi without the comfort of his presence; it has also left them in a difficult financial situation. 

No donation is too small, every cent is appreciated. The money donated will be put towards bills that, until recently, were paid by a double income.
