Steve Burrough 2016 Medical Costs

Donation protected
Coach Steve Burrough is a young high school wrestling coach with a wife and two young children living in Birmingham, AL.   He has been struggling with an illness for several years.  Friends and family want to help the Burroughs financially with expenses incurred while trying to discover an accurate diagnosis and successful treatment.  This is a picture of Steve several years ago before illness struck.

For several years,  he  suffered with a severe cough, severe fatigue, weight loss, nausea and at times vomitting.  Many specialists were unable to find what was wrong until almost 2 years ago when he suddenly dropped 25 lbs in 3 weeks and the nausea and vomitting worsened.  After numerous appointments in Birmingham, Alabama, he finally received a diagnosis of vocal cord  paralysis and M.A.C. (mycobacterium avium complex).  He had several surgeries on the paralyzed vocal cord and began treatment for M.A.C., but something was still very wrong.  He continued to have all the symptoms and was not recovering at all.

This is a current picture of Coach Burrough during his illnessHe has now lost a total of 45 pounds.

He  and his wife were referred to the Mayo Clinic and have, to date,  returned 3 times for tests and a diagnosis.  The Mayo Clinic doctors tell him and his family they have spoken with doctors around the world and are having a difficult time diagnosing his illnesses.  They know he  is sick, but he has to continue with testing and treatments since they are having difficulty with a definite diagnosis.

One of the many surgeries where a mass was removed from his neck.

The last trip to the Mayo Clinic, the PET scans show several hot spots in his neck, chest and pelvic area, and doctors are continuing to monitor them and think they have ruled out cancer and ALS.  They decided recently on a diagnosis of Neuro Sarcoidosis and Pulmonary Sarcoidosis along with the M.A.C. and a  paralyzed vocal cord.  He has begun a new treatment for the recent additional disease diagnosis.  Doctors feel confident of this new and added diagnosis of Sarcoidosis.  However,  this is an unusual form with symptoms they have not seen before, and they continue to discuss his case with doctors around the world.

I am a long time friend of the Burrough Family and know they are in need of financial help to pay for current medical expenses and bills.   Additionally, they anticipate future medical and travel expenses to Mayo.  We are prayerful they will find answers and treatment for his illnesses.  Funds received will be used to pay for debt incurred due to astronomical medical and travel expenses and future expenses for treatment.  Steve is scheduled to return to The Mayo Clinic in June, September and December and will be unable to make these trips without financial assistance.   Each trip averages at least $5,000 per week out of pocket.
