Help for Hattie

If you've been coming to Hounds Abound for any amount of time there is a good chance you have crossed paths with Hattie and Barb.  Hattie , the shaggy, gentle giant of a dog with the soulful eyes.  On the other end of the leash is Barb, her cheerful,  outgoing  owner  who always has a smile and something nice to say.   Together they have been part of our family for over over 9 years.  Barb is the kind of person that if you need help she is there.  She is an amazing acquaintance and a priceless friend.  She has been a spiritual lifesaver to many of us too many times to count  and she does it out of the goodness of her heart not for kudos or karma.   She is sincere and genuine and so are her friendships.  Her dogs Hattie and Ginger are her purpose and  she focuses much of her life around them and their well being.  Her connection with them is very special and that's what recently most likely saved Hattie's life.  One morning a few weeks ago Barb found a small lump on Hattie's brow bone.   She didn't remember it being there the day before...  so to be cautious she took her to see her vet.  Fast forward a week,  3 different veterinarians, CAT scans, blood tests and a biopsy and finally a solid answer: Osteosarcoma.  Bone cancer.  The vets say it's a miracle Barb found it so early.  Because of that and it's very rare location it was decided that with surgery and chemo Hattie had a good chance of beating it but they had to move fast.   She started chemo immediately and a week after diagnosis had surgery to remove the growing lump.  Unfortunately  to get the safest meridians around the tumor a good amount of bone around it had to be removed.  So did one of her soulful eyes.   Everything went well and she is at home recovering with Barb and Ginger nursing her.   Now we just continue chemo and hope that if it got a chance to spread that will nip it in the bud.
All of this has been quite a shock to everyone that loves Hattie and Barb (that's a lot of people!)  It has happened very fast and gotten very expensive.  That's why we have created this page to help Barb out with Hattie's care and recovery.    Some of you have battled (or are battling) cancer with your dog.   You know the emotional roller coaster.   We just hope to ease the stress of that ride by helping with the cost of it.   If you would rather not donate on this site but would still like to help you can donate money or gift cards to Pet Pros (where Barb shops for the dogs) here at Hounds Abound and we will give them to Barb.    Or if you just want to get her a card or note for support and love we will make that happen too.   Keeping Barb's spirits up will help Hattie heal faster.  We've always said Hounds Abound is a big family and that's what makes it special.   We take care of each other.  Thanks everyone.  33489624_1538688337909710_r.jpeg33489624_1538688470261246_r.jpeg33489624_1538688086975927_r.jpeg33489624_1538688107156555_r.jpeg
