Hi my name is Jesse Raczynski and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read Keisha’s story.
I must say I have been reluctant to share such personal and heart breaking news with you all but I have come to a point where I have felt the need to reach out. All the love, kind words and support from my current community have been invaluable at this time. So it’s high time I share her battle in hopes of support from others.
I have known Keisha since we were both babies and she has been my closest friend since I can remember, for this reason with a heavy heart and permission from her family I’m sharing Keisha’s Story.
This year, not long after Keisha’s 28th birthday she was diagnosed with a rare neurological degenerative disease known as Pick’s disease (Frontotemporal Dementia) which is a rapidly progressive form of dementia and is genetic. Although her case is quite complex, after a year of hospitalisation, many tests and treatments to eliminate other possible illnesses, doctors are quite sure of this being her diagnosis.
Keisha’s current quality of life is quite poor and she needs constant 24 hour care and support with daily living and functioning. She is in mid-late stages of the disease and her prognosis is proving to be what we so desperately hoped it wouldn’t be.
Nikki has been Keisha's sole parent her whole life. Now that she is her constant carer she is finding the challenge of working and giving Keisha all she needs overwhelming. She is in need of time off work in order to continue to show up for Keisha in what is the hardest point in both of their lives and when they need each other most.
Nikki has used up all available carers leave and financial resources available to her. She has even given up her home in order to work less, relying on those she loves to give her a place to live during this time.
The emotional toll this has taken on Nikki is understandably devastating, and her ability to show up to work consistently has become impossible.
After a very long and hard road we are having to face the challenge of accepting Keisha's circumstances. It’s hard to say how much time she has left on this earth with us, we love her so much and we want the last period of her life to be the best it possibly can be and filled with all the love and joy we’re able to give her.
We want Keisha’s mum to be able to spend as much quality time as she can with her daughter. Our hopes are to relieve the financial stressors and worries that come with this and to cover any costs associated with Keisha’s needs and being able to provide them for her.
Funds that are raised will be going to Nikki to help her to cover costs associated with Keisha’s care. This will also allow her to take time off work as she needs. Funds will somewhat allow her mum to have peace of mind and focus on fulfilling Keisha’s hopes and wishes.
Your love and support means everything to her family. Words can’t begin to explain just how much Keisha means to us. She is the most beautiful and kindest person I’ve ever known and is so loved by all that know her.
Her mum has been so incredibly strong through this time and it breaks my heart knowing how much she has been through. It has been a very difficult experience seeing Keisha unwell and she deserves so much more than what life has given her.
I want to thank you all so kindly for the support, your listening ear and your compassion during this difficult time, if you aren’t able to donate please pass this along to other people in our community, thank you.
