Freya's Paws For Your Cause
Donation protected
Freya Pants Girl Dog (Freya for short) is a Dutch Shepard. One day Freya was a normal dog and the next day she wasn't. She was vomiting and could only walk 15 feet before her legs would give out. Freya has been diagnosed with a rare condition called thymoma myasthenia gravis. In other words, Freya has a very rare tumor that mimics an incredibly rare neurological disease in both humans and dogs. Your money will go towards Freya’s treatment and to a charity of your choice.
Feel free to keep reading…
We are learning as a family how horrible a neurological disorder can be for the people who have them and their loved ones. We have watched people with ALS on tv and have cried (well, I have), but seeing something like this first hand, just in a dog, is causing us pain we didn't even know we could feel. We are experiencing something that has us thinking and feeling more deeply about neurological diseases.
Since Freya couldn’t fulfill her dream of being a White House security dog, she is going to raise money for your charity of choice while funding her own treatment.
Every $1 you donate we will match it with 25 cents. That money and any money remaining after Freya’s treatment or death while receiving treatment will be donated to your charity of choice. For every $5 you donate your name will be entered into a bucket.
If you don't want to donate but would like to be apart of this, post on Freya’s wall. Feel free to share a story or a picture of your pet.
If you want to have the chance to donate money to your charity of choice, then donate as much as you can to get multiple entries.
If I could pick a charity I would do the Alzheimer’s Association. David would donate to Grandmother’s House of Central Oregon. Freya would donate to the Humane Society in Fresno California. Freya’s sister, Cali would donate to The Boys and Girls Club, her sister Crumb would donate to The American Heart Association and her sister Mayko would donate to the ALS Association. You get the idea, right?
Some question you may have:
Why don't you put your dog to sleep?
Freya is not in any pain. She is still a kind and caring dog, who sincerely loves the vet because she loves meeting new people and animals. She still desperately wants to run, play and out smart everyone, including her sisters. Freya’s treatment could give doctors some answers in different types of neurological disorders. The doctors who are anticipating Freya’s arrival on Monday are very excited as scientists.
Why wont you just let nature take its course?
Many diseases in people and in animals have a symptom called megaesophagus. Freya's treatment will give doctors another chance to try new ideas. Their hope is to find treatments for people and animals who develop Megaesophagus as a result of many different diseases.
What happens with Megaesophagus?
The esophagus becomes enlarged and the ability for the person or animal to swallow can be impossible. People and animals can become dependent on feeding tubes and need 24 hour care because of aspiration. Aspiration is when food is not properly swallowed and enters the lungs or it just doesn't get down the throat at all.
Why should I donate to a dog when there are people dying from rare diseases everyday?
Freya will give regular people, doctors, researchers and curious minds one more subject to study and learn from. .
What stage or state is Freya in?
Freya is in a very fortunate state given her disease. We still have to feed her soft food, keep her elevated for 1 to 2 minutes after meals. We are giving her antibiotics to prevent infections that are caused by saliva and food getting in the lungs. Freya cannot walk for more than 15 feet, but she can stand for a little bit. Freya is not in pain. She still has her personality, strong will and playful manor. Most dogs and people are not as fortunate as Freya in. People and animals die from diseases that causes Megaesophagus.
Why are you guys asking for money when you can match quarter for every dollar given?
We have some savings, we are selling some possessions we realized aren't important. We are also working our butts of at our jobs or soon to be jobs.
Where will the money go?
Every $5 you donate we will add your charity of choice to our bucket. If your name is drawn we will contact you and make arrangements to have the money donated in whatever charity you would like and put the donation under any name you want.
How desperate is the situation?
Freya needs treatment right away and finding neurologist, internists and surgeons is difficult because there are a lot of sick dogs and they need care just as much as Freya.
What will the money go towards?
Freya’s testing for a 100% diagnosis and surgery. We are hoping that is all and the rest can be donated..
Will Freya make a full recovery?
We don't know. Less than 2% of these tumors are cancerous. The symptoms of myasthenia graves go away immediately after removing the tumor. If the tumor is cancerous and has not spread Freya has good odds.
Is Freya going to become a caged animal that is tested on and in pain?
No. We accept animals are needed to help cure diseases, but that is not Freya's situation.
When is enough, enough?
After Freya has surgery and her success rate is evaluated we will continue Freya’s life. If Freya is in pain and will always be in pain we will put her to sleep immediately.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Freya and learn about questions that come up with animals all the time when they are sick.
