Save Frank's Leg

(Español Abajo) Hi, my name is Gabby, and a friend and I are fundraising for our friend Francisco Peña, who is 29 years old. He lives in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, with his two sisters and parents. He supports his family financially along with his father and sisters. On March 7th of, 2022, Frank was on his way to visit clients on his motorcycle when a man missed a stop sign and rammed into him, causing him to fracture his right tibia bone in 8 parts. He was rushed to the workers' public hospital in his town, where they performed surgery to piece up his tibia bone using screws and surgical metal.

A couple of days later, he noticed holes were growing around the surgery area. When he was taken back to the hospital, the doctors found flesh-eating bacteria affecting the flesh in and around the wound, exposing the previously inserted metal. So the doctors performed a muscle graft (second surgery) to help heal and cover the hole left by the bacteria.

This procedure, however, did not entirely get rid of the bacteria. As a result, Frank's family and himself decided to seek a 2nd opinion. They discovered that the doctors from the public hospital failed to notice that the screws and metal were still contaminated with the same organisms and caused continuous swelling, redness, discharge, and inflammation. In addition, they discovered a deep vein thrombosis. For this reason, he's now taking blood thinners and antibiotics.

Consequently, he needs a third surgery to remove the metal in his leg and will be hospitalized in a private hospital for approximately 45 days. The doctors also mentioned he'll have to go to Guatemala or El Salvador for further analyses, which include an internal check-up of the bones to see if the bacteria has infected his bones and an occult infection screening. These analyses will help determine how much internal damage has been caused by the bacteria, specifically in the bone, and if it has already started to spread, which could potentially jeopardize other limbs, organs, etc. Without those mentioned above, he is at risk of losing his leg or his life if he is not treated on time.

After his third surgery, and if everything goes as expected, he will need to receive: physiotherapy, magnetotherapy, hydrotherapy, and assisted gymnastic therapy. This process will take approximately 12 months of daily treatment and control. The time during which he will not be able to work and, therefore, will have no income.

We are hopeful he will get the support and help he needs. For this reason, we appeal to your kindness and helping hearts to bring us closer to the point where we can support our friend Francisco and his family. We wish to help them get through these desperate times, where money is the primary factor that prevents taking immediate action to save Frank’s leg and life. En resúmen Frank tiene 29 años, vive en San Pedro Sula, Honduras. El 7 de Marzo del 2022, el iba en su motocicleta camino a ver clientes en su horario laboral cuando otra persona en un vehiculo lo envistio, atropelladolo. En consecuencia el tuvo 8 fracturas en su tibia. Fue hospitalizado para tratar la fractura, pero mientras estaba en el hospital, contrajo un bacteria qué le está comiendo la piel en su pierna. Dado la gravedad del asunto tuvo que ser trasladado a un hospital privado el cuál genera costos altísimos. Necesita operaciones, examenes, viajes fuera de HN para alnalisis y tambien un largo periodo de terapias y recuperacion.

Adicionalmente, los medicos encontraron evidencia de trombosis en muestras de su pierna, lo cual agrava más su situación. Sin poder ser atendido a tiempo para detener la bacteria y removerla totalmente, podria perder su pierna e incluso su vida.
